Mexican Taquitos

Flautas, or by their more common name taquitos or tacos dorados, is common household Mexican dish. If your want to have the sensation that your are in a Mexican household I recommend making Flautas. This dish is prepared by filling a tortilla with a variety of fillings including beef, cheese, or chicken. The tortilla is the fried to a golden crispy color. Once fried they can then be topped with an assortment of condiments from sour cream and guacamole. One can also add cabbage and quest fresco.

The origin of it’s name is derived from the shape of the object. In Spanish, Flauta can be translated to mean flute and when you compare the shape of the Flauta to a flute you will notice that they are quite similar.

Ever since the early to mid 1900s, Flautas have been known as a street food when a woman and her daughter coined this invention. From then on many chain restaurants took their idea and that’s when manufacturers began to mass produce the product that most of America knows today as taquitos.
